How to get accepted at USC Pharmacy School

The University of Southern California offers the oldest Doctor of Pharmacy program in the nation. Students can enter as a TAP student as an undergraduate and work their work into the Pharm.D. program; applicants who have a bachelor's degree (along with complete prerequisites) may apply directly to the pharmacy school.

If you are already an undergraduate or plan on applying after completing your undergraduate studies, skip to Step 2. The Trojan Admission Prepharmacy (TAP) program allows high school students and transfers from other undergraduate programs to enter USC undergrad to complete a bachelor's degree in a minimum of two years before being guaranteed admission into the Pharm.D. program upon maintaining a 3.2 GPA and successfully completing all prerequisite courses.

Requirements include the TAP application; two letters of recommendation; a resume and application essays.

Recently, the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy has required completion of a bachelor's degree as a requirement prior to matriculation (you can still apply if your degree is still in progress and completed before you start pharmacy school). All pharmacy schools accept any undergraduate major, but completion of all prerequisite courses is mandatory to be accepted into the Pharm.D. program (again, you can apply with courses in progress as long as you finish by the summer before you start). Check the course equivalencies link for specific course numbers at your university.

USC does not require the PCAT exam.

USC requires that you complete the PharmCAS application, a supplemental application, as well as a quick graduate school application. PharmCAS is a centralized application service where you submit your grades, extracurricular activities, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. In addition to this application, you will need to complete additional essays and other prompts on the USC supplemental application. Transcripts will need to be also sent to USC directly from each institution you attended.

Since USC sends out interview invitations and acceptances on a rolling basis, you increase your chances of acceptance by submitting your applications as soon as possible. Interviews begin November and run through March.
