Add extracurricular activities. Colleges want to see students that are well-rounded both in and out of school, so volunteer work, sports or club activities can be a great way to show a college that you have interests both in and out of school.
Get your grades up. A few bad grades will not keep students from college, but improving your grades will help. Colleges like to see students improve. It shows the college that the student is capable of hard work and doing well in school.
Talk to a guidance counselor. The guidance counselors at school are there to help students decide on a future and make choices about which colleges are best. They will usually have lists of colleges for every student's situation and will be able to give suggestions about how to get into those colleges with the current grades.
Apply to several colleges. Bad grades will affect the college opinion, so it is possible that the first few schools will reject the student. Applying to several colleges increases the chance of making it into a few and having choices.
Start college classes at a community college. A two-year college can make it easier to get into a four-year university or college by giving a boost in grades and preparing the student for the changes of college. Good grades in a community college will show the universities that the student is serious about education.
