How to Write a College Entrance Paper

A college entrance paper is the essay you will have to write during the application process. Your entrance paper defines who you are and displays how you are different from the other applicants. College entrance papers are concise, but they still must describe an aspect of your life. To write a college entrance paper, check the college's website for the topics that you can write about, find your point of view, write an outline of the essay, incorporate details, write a draft of the essay, discuss it with your English teacher and then write your final draft.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the college website for the topics that you can write about. Some colleges have specific questions for you to answer. Read through the possible questions and pick a topic you can develop, such as what you plan to study in college and why.

    • 2

Find your point of view on the topic. You have to know how you want to answer the question. You may want to write about becoming a doctor, for example, because you want to help people by finding a cure for diseases that are now incurable.

    • 3

Decide how you will incorporate personal details into your essay. Personal details are necessary for writing college entrance papers because they show the people in the admissions office what type of person you are, which standardized grade reports can't do. You may choose to include a personal experience about a friend who died from HIV and tell how this inspired you to learn more about the disease.

    • 4

Write a draft of your essay. Make an outline to help you. When you are finished, proofread the draft and fix any mistakes.

    • 5

Discuss the draft with your high school English teacher. The teacher can help you fix grammatical errors that you may not have noticed and improve your sentence structure and the way in which you express your ideas.

    • 6

Write the final draft of your college entrance paper. Make sure that the paper is typed, double spaced and in a 10- or 12-point font. The college website might specify a point size.
