Visit the Julliard website (juilliard.edu). Download the PDF file for the Application and Audition Requirements.
Record a prescreening of your talent, if the major program you are applying for requests it. Students studying instruments such as the cello, violin and flute must submit an audio recording on CD. Other instruments, such as piano, percussion and double bass are required to turn in an audio-visual presentation on DVD. Composition applicants must submit audio recordings as well as copies of written scores.
Secure a letter of recommendation. If applying for undergraduate studies this needs to come from a high school language arts or history teacher. Only composers are required to submit a recommendation from a musician, or music teacher.
Visit the Julliard website again and complete the online application.
Submit the application fee, which was $100 at the date of publication.
Submit your prescreening materials by the required deadline. Failure to do so will automatically nullify an invitation to audition live.
Submit your transcripts and letter of recommendation.
Wait for a response from Julliard. They will notify you of your status and whether a live audition is required.
Audition, if asked to do so. The auditions take place in New York City in front of a live faculty judging panel. Julliard may furnish a complete repertoire to the applicant. This piece of music needs to be completed in full, or as requested by the faculty judging panel.
