Leeward Community College was founded in 1969 and is located on the west side of the island of Oahu. Prospective students have the opportunity to pursue majors in technical, liberal arts or professional programs. Students who enroll at Leeward can also take classes online through Lualima, the online learning environment that is set up with the University of Hawaii. Through Lualima, students can earn some degrees entirely online. Most two-year degrees from the college will transfer to a four-year institution.

The college focuses on providing training and education in both technical and occupational programs that emphasize hands-on experience. Students can pursue careers as an emergency medical technician, dental assistant, educational interpreter or long-term care nurses aide, to name a few career choices. In addition to technical programs, students can major in liberal arts degrees such as international studies, new media arts, history, English and political science. University of Hawai'i-West O'ahu is a popular four-year institution that accepts transfer students from two-year community colleges. The university offers many degrees in professional programs as well as liberal arts, providing a number of options for undergraduates and adults seeking opportunities for continuing education. Students can pursue a bachelor of education, bachelor of arts or bachelor of applied science. Majors include fields of study such as anthropology, English, accounting, history, justice administration, political science and culinary management. Many of these programs can also be taken through online courses or certificate programs.
