Obtain a copy of your college diploma and an official and itemized transcript. An official transcript may list only the student's semestral results, such as grade point average and related awards. An itemized transcript shows every class the student has taken in school. You can obtain these documents by contacting the registrar at your school. These documents are important, so you can show them to the college where you need college credit.
Contact an academic counselor at the college to which you're applying. This will help you find out the college's protocol in evaluating foreign degrees. Some colleges may have an in-house evaluator, while for others you may need to employ an independent evaluator. Check with their requirements regarding how they interpret U.K. degrees and plan accordingly.
Apply online to the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ACCRAO). This is an organization that offers a foreign education evaluation that you can obtain by filling out an application. You can either apply online or through regular mail. Submit the official transcript to ACCRAO by mail. Evaluation costs depend upon what services you select.
List your academic history aside from your grades. Some colleges give you college credit for exams you've passed or recognition you've obtained. Your academic history may include academic qualifications such as certificates, honors, awards and exams you have taken in your U.K. college. This academic history may help you gain additional U.S. college credit for obtaining these academic qualifications.
Submit the result of the evaluation to the college. Make sure that you meet with a counselor to discuss the results, so you know how ACCRAO evaluated your academic background. You can then plan classes with your counselor based on the results of the evaluation.
