The University of Cincinnati College of Conservatory of Music offers students professional conservatory training in musical theater. The program focuses on analysis, imagination and technical skills to help students become master performers. Students collaborate with playwrights, composers, lyricists and choreographers to bring productions to the stage and perform in front of capacity audiences. Students travel to New York City during their senior year to showcase their talents in front of industry professionals.

The University of Michigan's Department of Musical Theater offers a bachelor of fine arts degree in musical theater. The curriculum focuses on dance, theater and music, and students are given opportunities to participate in a number of productions. Students interested in enrolling must audition with a monologue and a song. Seniors can participate in the Senior Showcase, in which graduating students can perform songs and scenes for casting directors and agents in New York City.

The acting/musical theater program at Carnegie Mellon University is a four-year training program offering students discipline, technique and skills in musical theater. Students can focus on acting or musical theater. Students enrolled in the latter program take courses in acting, voice, movement, music, jazz, ballet, tap, cabaret, Broadway styles and acting a song. Opportunities are available to study abroad during senior year, and showcases are held in New York and Los Angeles for industry professionals.
