Smog Tech Schools

Smog technicians, also called smog check technicians, inspect, diagnose, repair and adjust the emissions control on vehicles and determine whether the vehicle's emissions comply with California state regulations regarding air quality. California's Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) initiated three classes of the smog check technician license including intern, basic and advanced. The intern license enables the recipient to perform only repairs and adjustments with the supervision of licensed technicians. The basic license allows individuals to perform all job related tasks, but only in a limited number of areas in the state. The advanced license fully qualifies the student employment anywhere in the state. BAR-certified schools throughout California prepare students to acquire this license.
