Lake Superior College offers a program in computer information technology. Students can choose from three academic programs: certificate, diploma and associate of applied science. They will need to complete 29 credit hours for a certificate, 59 credit hours for a diploma and 72 credit hours for an associate's degree. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED or be able to pass an assessment test. Prerequisites for each program include English, math and reading. Common coursework for the three programs includes operating systems technologies, hardware and networking. Diploma and associate degree students will take additional courses such as emerging technologies and professional networking. They will also complete an internship. Students in all programs will graduate as an information technology specialist in network administration.

The College of St. Scholastica's computer information program helps students learn to solve problems through up-to-date and emerging system technologies. The four-year program includes 10 elective computer classes and 11 required computer classes. Required subjects include computer concepts, databases, hardware, software, Java programming, algorithm analyzing and an internship in software development. Electives can include game design, computer security and artificial intelligence. Graduates will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree. Students applying to the college should have a high school diploma or GED and are encouraged to interview with college admissions staff.

University of Minnesota Duluth offers a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems. Students must complete 120 credit hours to graduate with 78 of those credits being in major coursework. All students must complete 35 credit hours in the school's liberal education program. These classes can include college writing, cultural diversity, international perspective, critical thinking, foreign languages, history, artistic expression and physical, biological and social sciences. Required classes for the computer program include how to analyze and design software, database and operating systems, business information and network technology, and interactive and multimedia technology. Program applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Transfer students must have taken at least 26 semester or 39 quarter credit hours.
