Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has gained a world-wide reputation as being the best school to go to for any kind of technology specialty. In the 2010 issue of U.S. News & World Report's college rankings, the MIT Sloan School of Management was rated third among America's Master of Business Administration programs, just below Harvard and Stanford, which were tied for first. Sloan's specialty program in information systems was ranked first.
Located in Palo Alto, California, Stanford University is known for its excellent in research and education. In the information technology program, which falls under its engineering department, electrical engineering and computer science are its special strengths.
Much published research has come out of the University of California at Berkeley, which is also famous for its business school. The University of California Berkeley School of Information offers an interdisciplinary Master of Information Management and Systems professional program. Located in the United Kingdom, the University of Cambridge is one of the oldest and most respected universities in the world. The Center for the Physics of Information located at California Institute of Technology is devoted to the research and philosophy of both physical science and information science. Research coming out of this center includes a DNA logic circuit, an optical microresonator that detects heavy water, and a new technique called "nonlinearity management" that can precisely control laser pulses.
