Sound Engineering Courses in Singapore

Sound engineering, also referred to as audio engineering, entails the methods used in reproducing sound. Professional positions include recording engineer, sound engineer and audio engineer, amongst others. The East Asian republic of Singapore offers a number of institutions of higher learning for those seeking educational opportunities. Sound engineering programs are available at various levels for students interested in pursuing coursework in the field.
  1. SAE Institute-Diploma in Audio Engineering

    • The SAE Institute, established in 1976, offers the Diploma in Audio Engineering. Students receive traditional classroom instruction, and apply their learning in an applied approach. Schedules are individualized, allowing students the opportunity to study at times suitable to their timetable. Students may study full- or part-time, with program lengths of 12 and 18 months, respectively. Programs begin in April for both full- and part-time students, as well as July and October for full-time students, and October for part-time students. Prospective applicants must be no less than 17 years of age, hold an audio certificate from SAE, or General Certificate of Education and/or its international counterpart. Students may study for the bachelor's degree offering at SAE upon the program's conclusion.

    SAE Institute-BA (Hons) Audio Production

    • The SAE Institute, established in 1976, offers a bachelor of arts, honors degree, in Audio Production. Students further hone the skills gathered from SAE's diploma-level Audio Engineering program--as the bachelor's degree encompasses those components--along with an additional year of study. Degree seekers participate in full-time study only, following the diploma program. Entry requirements state that a student must be a minimum of 17 years of age, possess a General Certificate of Education and/or its global equivalent, and the SAE Audio Engineering diploma, or a corresponding certificate. The program offers entry in either April of October.

    Orita Sinclair-Diploma in Electro-Sonics

    • Orita Sinclair School of Design, New Media & the Arts, founded in 2002, provides various study options in the aforementioned fields. The school offers the Diploma in Electro-Sonics, geared for those interested in music and its mediums. Courses include Acoustic Principles and Sound Proofing (levels 1 and 2), Recording Technology Tools (levels 1, 2, and 3), and Concepts and Principles of Sound Mixing and Post Production. Students may study either full- or part-time, with full-time participation consisting of three terms, at 25 hours per week. Part-time students matriculate for six terms, at 12.5 hours per week. The full-time program is nine months in duration. Prospective applicants must be 18 years of age, and possess appropriate secondary education credentials. Orita Sinclair may make admissions exceptions, however, for talented 16- and 17-year-olds, and similar individuals who display promise but do not meet the required entry criterion.
