Pearson divides the program into nine general areas--developmental math, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, math for liberal arts students and teachers, math for business students, math for careers and "other" math. Developmental math alone contains 10 subjects, including several levels of algebra. Each program includes a variety of learning tools, including tutoring and practice tests.
Some college bookstores sell new Pearson textbooks that include a MyMathLab Access Code and Getting Started Kit at no additional cost. If a used book is purchased, however, the access code kit can be charged online at Course Compass. In an FAQ list about My Math Lab, Illinois Valley Community College notes that an electronic version of the text can be accessed at Course Compass.
After purchasing the text, begin registration for My Math Lab at the Course Compass homepage. Click on the "How to Register button" in the left-hand margin. The next page tells what materials are necessary before registering, including an email address, the course ID received from the instructor and the access code. Click next and enter the course ID. The following pages ask for the access code or payment information to purchase one online, a login name and password and contact information.
