College Outreach Ideas

One of the most important things a college can do is to encourage enrollment of qualified students. College outreach programs vary from campaigns that make a college seem "cool" to others that highlight available programs and academic opportunities. If you are a college administrator attempting to attract students to your school, there are a number of college outreach ideas to consider.
  1. High School Presentations

    • College staff, usually college counselors, can give lectures at high schools offering information about the college's programs and social activities. A creative way to get students excited about attending your college's assembly is to enlist the college mascot to present the "cool" side of attending your college, including sports, clubs, fraternities and sororities and the social scene on campus and in the local community.

    College Packages

    • Develop booklets that provide information on academic programs, social life and the local community. Also include information on tuition, fees and financial aid/scholarships. Develop brochures and a reference booklet with phone numbers and email addresses where students can get more information. Also include housing information for both on-campus residency options (when available) and housing within the community, such as a listing of apartment complexes.

    Newsletter/Email List

    • A high-tech way to advertise to potential students is to have website visitors sign up for the college newsletter or important updates and reminders, such as the last day to apply for the upcoming term or class registration dates. Create and post a video on the website that tells visitors the advantages of signing up for the email list and what kind of information they will receive.
