How to Format a School Project Acknowledgment

When you have a major project for school, such as a thesis or dissertation, it is considered proper form to include an acknowledgments section just before your references. The purpose of your acknowledgments is to thank those who provided guidance and assistance as you carried your school project from start to finish. Whether the assistance involved advice, supplies or financial aid, each should be a separate section in your acknowledgment, and your thanks must be genuine but not lengthy.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the "Acknowledgments" title, followed by a statement expressing your gratitude to everyone who supported you in any way as you worked on your project. For example: "This project would not have come to fruition without the help of several individuals to whom I owe many thanks."

    • 2

Write a short paragraph thanking individuals who offered subject-specific advice and intellectual guidance for the project. This will most likely include teachers, professors or lecturers with expertise in the subject matter addressed by your project.

    • 3

Write a brief paragraph expressing thanks to individuals who supported you in other, abstract ways. For example, you may wish to thank a director whose extension of deadlines on other projects allowed you to focus on this one.

    • 4

Offer thanks to any person or organization that supported you financially or by donating materials for your project.

    • 5

Write a short paragraph thanking anyone else, such as friends and family, who provided moral support throughout the process.
