To receive a high score on the math section of the Accuplacer means possible placement in advanced college math courses. If you would like to be considered for these higher-level courses review and understand the principles of advanced algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Your high school math teacher is a good person to turn to for materials that can help you improve in these areas. There are also free library resources available that focus on these specific areas of math.
To determine your academic level in English and reading the Accuplacer will ask you questions on sentence structure and reading comprehension. You may also be asked to write a small essay. School counselors and English teachers understand the importance of attending college courses that challenge you and want you to score according to your best efforts. Seeking their help can result in study materials to help you better understand these subjects. They may even recommend an accomplished peer-tutor. Remember, doing well on the Accuplacer should not be accomplished by cramming. Give yourself time to truly understand the concepts being tested.
