The hub of a smart classroom is the computer. Computers can be Macintosh or PC, and can have dual operating systems including Mac OS X and Windows Vista to accommodate users from both camps. In addition, computers should contain a DVD-RW to allow students and teachers to create disks of information as well as a printer and USB extension cable for flash drives. A software bank can provide ample reference material, while a microphone and video camera aids videoconferencing with guest lecturers.
For watching educational videos, a smart classroom should be equipped with a VCR and DVD player, data or LCD projector, and a television or monitor, as well as a video input hub that can accommodate multiple devices in one AV system. A sound system rounds out a smart classroom's AV setup.
A school that doesn't have the capabilities to turn multiple classrooms into smart classrooms can utilize a portable smart cart that features a core group of smart classroom tools, like the computer, DVD/VCR, data projector and monitor. Smart carts allow multiple rooms to have smart classroom technology for less cost.
