How to Calculate and Test a Hypothesis

Creating and testing a hypothesis is an important part of the scientific method employed by researchers worldwide. Calculating and writing the hypothesis should be done before you test it. You can create the hypothesis based on your existing beliefs and expectations, as the hypothesis serves as an outcome that could be achieved, but needs to be tested to see if it is true or not.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down your calculated hypothesis either in words, numbers or symbols, as deemed necessary by the subject that you are testing.

    • 2

Determine the critical value for the test you will be performing. This will serve as the criteria that demonstrates of the test's results are evidence that the hypothesis is true or false.

    • 3

Perform your test. It is recommended that you perform the same test several times in a row to generate a large set of results to analyze.

    • 4

Analyze the data of your test results and determine if it supports your hypothesis or not. Then, write a conclusion that describes the results of the test and its methodology.
