How to Write a Sketch of a Thesis Paper

It is a good idea to sketch a rough draft of a thesis paper to help focus your research and to organize your thoughts. Thesis papers can be complex and challenging to write, so outlining your work will allow you to tap your creative side and deliver your message effectively.

Instructions

    • 1

Write your thesis statement on a piece of paper. Around the thesis, jot down the points that will support your statement.

    • 2

Write the evidence or observations that supports each point. This process will help you visually connect the points of your paper to determine how well you have researched your subject, according to the Darthmouth College Writing Program.

    • 3

Create an outline of your paper once your points have been made. Feel free to move sections around to create the best argument to support your thesis.

    • 4

Structure your thesis into sections to build your entire argument from the outline. Concentrate on telling the story through narration, describing the steps in the process, comparing and contrasting topics or explaining a cause and effect.
