The University of Pennsylvania offers a Master of Biotechnology program that includes four different curriculum tracks. Students have the option of focusing on molecular biotechnology, biopharmaceutical/engineering biotechnology, computational biology/bioinformatics and biomedical technologies. The program draws faculty from the School of Engineering and and Applied Science and School of Arts and Sciences to teach courses. Core courses in the program include biochemistry, biotechnology, genetic engineering and statistics.
The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at UC Irvine has a Master of Science in Biotechnology that combines classroom and laboratory work. Topics covered in the program include protein isolation and characterization, recombinant DNA technology, microbial cell culture and product development and marketing. Students are required to assist faculty members in research projects. Summer internships are also strongly recommended for students.
Brigham Young University offers a master's degree program in genetics and biotechnology. Students in the program learn about plant and animal productivity, and treatment of diseases. While minors are not required, possible opportunities include botany, microbiology, computer science, food science or range science. For the past five years, the program has admitted an average of four students per year.
The master's degree program in biotechnology at Texas Tech University is a two-year program that combines one year of classroom work with one year of research. The curriculum includes courses in biochemistry, cell function and structure, human physiology, biomedical informatics, cellular & molecular immunology and principles of pharmacology. Research areas may include animal and plant biotechnology, biomedicine applications and agricultural concepts.
