You will read and learn about the cultural expectations, artistic influence and the fierce battles of Greece, such as the Archidamian and Peloponnesian Wars.
Egyptology is the study of ancient Egyptian culture. You will read about Egyptian god-kings such as Ramses II and Tutankhamen. You will study the construction, design, development, meaning and the purpose behind the mysterious Egyptian pyramids and the first known ships to ever be built. This culture also recorded the earliest known peace treaty.
When taking a course about ancient Rome, you will cover the empire, from Romulus (the legendary founder and first King of Rome), to Emperor Constantine. This will include aspects of the Roman Legion and the territories it swept through and conquered, as well as the rise of Christianity and the historiography, inscriptions, coins, art and architecture of its people. The studies will show how modern influences and understanding have culled from ancient Rome.
In this type of course, you will cover the works of ancient writers and philosophers such as Plato, Homer, Hippolytus, Virgil, Cao Zhi and Qu Yuan. You will develop a deeper understanding of the mythology, oral tradition and influence these scholars had on ancient culture and how, in some cases, they still influence society in the 21st century.
