Because of Canada's French heritage and history, there are plenty of universities that offer programs in French. For example, the University of Toronto Mississauga offers classes such as Functional French, Advanced Language Practice III: Written French, Introduction of French Studies and Introduction to Literary Analysis. The University of Toronto allows students who complete at least three courses in the specialist program and obtain an average of 70 percent in two of the three courses to participate in a study abroad program in France or Quebec during the third year.
Some Canadian universities offer degrees or certificates in Food Science. McGill University has an option of obtaining a certificate in this degree. The program consists of 30 credits. Students must complete the Introduction to Food Science, Quality Assurance and Food Microbiology, along with other courses that relate to food chemistry and analysis. Other classes in the Food Science program include Food Packaging, Food Processing, Biophysical Chemistry of Food and Nutraceutical Chemisty.
Many universities in Canada offer bachelor's and master's degrees in education. These programs are similar to many education programs in the United States, but certain classes are unique to Canada. For example, Vancouver Island University has a Bachelor of Arts in Education program that offers classes such as Principles of Teaching and Learning, Human Development: Child Development and Education and Issues in Aboriginal Education in the third year. Fourth year classes include Curriculum and Instruction and Instructional Design, while students study Foundations of Education in British Columbia and Special Educational Needs in the Classroom in the fifth year.
The University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine offers a program dedicated to Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies. Courses vary depending on semester. Classes include Rehabilitation Management, Community Practice in Career Development and Disability and Ethics of Caring and Inclusion: Implications for Educational Reform. Another university that has a program of this sort is the University of British Columbia. Rehabilitation Sciences studies for UBC are only available online.
