Remedial Courses in College

College courses can be hard for some students. To help them acquire the prerequisite knowledge to take on a college course, students can take a remedial course. Remedial courses are available in all sorts of fields such as math and English. The remedial classes are taken in college and go on for the entire semester.
  1. Math

    • Many colleges provide classes in remedial math. These classes teach students the basic algebra that they have forgotten from high school. This includes fractional-based problems and graphing.

    English

    • Remedial English classes teach the basics of the English language. Students will learn such basic lessons as the difference between verbs, nouns and adjectives. This will give them the knowledge they need to use the language on a higher level than they once did.

    Writing

    • Students will learn how to write essays. Writing essays are commonplace in all majors in college, so it is necessary for students to learn how to write an effective essay.

    Science

    • Most colleges require students to take at least one college-level science course. For some students to excel at a college-level science class, they need to take a remedial science course to remember alll of the science information they may have forgotten from high school.
