Undergraduate degrees in forensics can now be completed at many universities. Students can expect to study modules in biochemistry, anatomy, chemistry and molecular biology. Examples of universities where forensic science can be studied include Waldon University and the University of Maryland.
Its not absolutely necessary to have an undergraduate degree in forensics to pursue a career in this area. Many employers will accept students who have studied biochemistry, physics and biology or who have other science degrees.
After obtaining a standard science undergraduate degree, it is then possible to specialize in forensics by doing a postgraduate qualification such as a master's or Ph.D. degree. Although these are not necessarily needed to pursue a career in forensics, they will inevitably give students an edge when applying for positions. Examples of universities that offer postgraduate qualifications in forensics include Michigan State University and Waldon University.
Forensic science can be further classified into sub-categories. Specialization is normally carried out by taking the appropriate postgraduate qualification. Examples of different types of forensic science include computer forensics, forensic psychology and forensic accounting.
