Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan University's College of Education and Human Development, which consistently ranks among the top 10 in the country in the production of professional educators, according to the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Concentrations available for undergraduates include early childhood education, special education, and elementary, physical and secondary education. The College of Education at Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti, is one of the largest providers of educational professionals in the nation. The college is divided into three departments: leadership and counseling, teacher education and special education.
