How to Write a Proposal for Ownership of Projects Within a University Setting

Universities are prime locations for inventions, projects and patents. In the mechanical, engineering and scientific labs at these institutions, you may come up with projects that you wish to secure with an invention proposal. If this is the case, you will likely want to protect your project's ownership by writing up your proposal with the correct details and the essential requirements for such a document.

Instructions

    • 1

Compose a detailed description of your project. This description should include a detailed report of how you concocted the project, the main function of the project, how to recreate the project and what products are required. Also describe how each part works with the other and detail anything essential that could be copied for your project.

    • 2

Take photographs of your project. Be sure to detail with your photographs how to assemble the project, how to use the project and what it is exactly that the project does. You can take pictures of each step of the creation process, and take separate pictures of the separate pieces of your project.

    • 3

Sign and date the proposal documents, and have them signed by two witnesses who can vouch for the project. These witnesses should also be knowledgeable of the project, and familiar with its history and application.
