Read the literature completely so you know you aren't going to miss any information and understand everything correctly.
Read the piece of literature a second time. This time make notes in the margin in areas where you have questions or concerns. Use a highlighter to highlight passages that interest you and underline things that are meaningful.
Decide on what you think the main idea, the thesis, of the piece is. Then look through the piece again to see if the statements and proofs match the thesis statement.
Write your review. State the name of the publication, the title of the article, and the author. Explain what you feel to be the piece's thesis statement. Discuss in your review the various proofs the writing listed for the thesis statement and say whether or not you agree with them.
Critique the overall writing of the piece. Review whether or not you feel the piece is well written, and discuss if there are areas where the piece does not make sense, where it is muddled or confusing, or where you did not get all the information you were seeking. If the piece was written excellently be sure to list that as well.
