Pine beetles can be found from Canada to Mexico, although they are most prevalent in western North America. Pine beetles, while not dangerous to humans or animals, will kill all of the trees in their path. Thus, when you notice the signs of a pine beetle infestation, such as popcorn-like resin balls on your tree, act swiftly and use a variety of methods to get rid of your infestation and reduce the likelihood of your pine beetles moving to other trees.
- Borer spray
- Axe
- Insecticide
- Long pants, long-sleeved shirts
- Gloves

1
Hand-strip the bark off the trunk, if the trunk is sufficiently damaged. This will leave the pine beetle larvae vulnerable to the elements, and the larvae will rapidly die. If hand-stripping the trunk is difficult, use a portable saw mill and chipper to cut slabs of bark and chip them off the trunk.

2
Burn the bark in a fire pit, to avoid infection of other trees.

Spray your trees with a borer spray containing lindane. Lindane will kill pine beetles at any point in their life cycle.
