Define your study time in advance. A full time school schedule does not take up your entire day. College students are expected to buffer their classroom learning with self paced study. Start a simple schedule that outlines every hour in the day and mark off your class time and work time only. Look for openings to schedule your study time. Plan out your recreational time. Strictly adhere to your plan of action.
Attend every class. If you plan on acing your way through college you will need every bit of information given by the professor. Make an effort to attend each class session. This is especially useful for courses you find difficult. A professor will not overlook your efforts.
Actively participate in classroom discussions and activities. When the professor is seeking classroom participation, raise your hand and give your best answer. Even if it is wrong, others may have the same thought. Participating helps the professor understand how students are processing the information that is given. Areas that are not understood require extra explanation. In group projects, an exchange of ideas will help you understand topics that you are working on.
Take notes and study them. Take thorough notes of each class discussion. Apply the concepts discussed whenever possible to increase your grade when completing papers and assignments. Make an effort to speak with your professor directly especially if there is information you do not understand. Professors can schedule a time to review the details or point you to a reputable tutor.
Meet your academic advisor to discuss your goals. Academic advisors are available at every college to support the students. They will explain all the resources available to you. If you run into any personal problems that you are unable to solve, they are experienced in assisting you. For problems outside of their expertise, they will give you options for further assistance.
