How to Write a Cover Sheet for a Research Paper

Research papers are often assigned as a part of a course requirement. Research papers are also sometimes written by academics and scientists, who submit their work for publication in academic or scientific journals. When presenting a formal research paper, it's important to create a cover sheet that is formatted properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a type font size and type for the title of your paper. Check with your instructor, or submission requirements for a journal, to see if there are specific font requirements. Center the title of your paper approximately half-way down the sheet.

    • 2

Under the title, type your name. Beneath your name, write the name of the course, including the course prefix and section number. The professor's name should appear on the next line, and the date should be included on the last line.

    • 3

Add the name of individuals that worked on the paper in the lower right hand corner of your cover sheet, if you worked with a group. Often times, professional research papers have numerous individuals who have worked on or otherwise contributed to the paper. In these cases, it may be impossible to include every name on the cover sheet. The way to give due credit to each contributor under these circumstances it to use "Et al" after the main researcher's name. This indicates to the reader that they can find the entire list of names at the end of the document.
