How to Write a Research Paper in Education

Preparing a research paper isn't something that most students look forward to; there are many considerations along the way and it can be a time consuming process. Whether you are majoring in education or simply taking an education class, there are several steps to writing a research paper in education.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin writing the introduction for your educational research paper. The introduction should state your thesis, giving an overview of what your research paper is about. There are many areas of education to research, such as educational theory, teaching practices or bilingual education.

    • 2

Write the body of the paper. Use resources such as those found on the database ERIC, which is specific to educational research, to gather information to support your topic. Most colleges and universities have access to databases that contain peer-reviewed journals and published research. Keep track of all of the resources you use for your reference section.

    • 3

Support your statements with facts. Including statistics and factual information will make your case more solid. For instance, if you are writing on how a school's funding affects the students' education, add specific examples of schools that support your thesis and their funding and graduation levels.

    • 4

Stay on topic and make sure you address your thesis. If your paper changes direction, revise your thesis to match the research. For example, if your thesis states that language immersion programs are the best way to teach students who are not native English speakers, but your research supports bilingual education, change your thesis to keep it consistent with your findings.

    • 5

Conclude your paper with a restatement of your thesis and a summary of your argument. Give a brief explanation on why you came to the conclusions that you did.
