Instructions

    • 1

Look up Hazo's poems with both his name and the title of the poem. Sometimes a website will have a specific poem but will not have credited the author properly. Thus, "Ballad of the One-Legged Marine" will garnish more hits than simply searching under "Hazo poem."

    • 2

Narrow your online search by including "Samuel Hazo poet," as there is a prominent composer who is also named Samuel Hazo, which will complicate your search results.

    • 3

Visit online poetry resources such as Poemhunter.com and The Writer's Almanac, both of which index poetry by authors.

    • 4

Call your local public library to see if they have a volume of Hazo's poetry. If not, request one of his books by title and ask that it be delivered to the library by interlibrary loan, or ILL. Using ILL is free, and the library will call you when the book arrives. If you need a specific poem from a particular volume, ask the librarian if he can call another library and request that the poem be faxed. Inquire if there is a fee for that service.

    • 5

Call the local university libraries if you cannot wait for the book via ILL. The library at a local university or its English department may have a copy available.
