Many students become homesick while away at college. They miss the closeness of coming home to their family at the end of the day. When you join a sorority, you gain a new group of sisters that will serve as your family away from home. Sorority sisters form a tight bond, and are always there for one another, just as with a real family. The friendships made between sorority sisters are often strong enough to last beyond the colleges years, with the women considering each other "sisters" for a lifetime.
Sororities offer members the chance to obtain a number of leadership positions, which can work to build your confidence and develop your management, organizational, and social skills, among many other benefits. Some of these leadership roles include sorority president, treasurer, secretary, social chair and volunteer chair. The backing of a sorority can also help you in successfully obtaining a larger elected role, such as a seat on the student government.
In addition to having an entire sorority worth of girls to hang out with whenever you please, your sorority will also be friendly with other greek organizations. You will be invited to planned events with other fraternities and sororities, such as date nights, mixers, athletic events, parties and many additional events. These activities will allow you to get to know the students in the other sororities and fraternities, which will work to expand your circle of friends.
Many alumni members like to stay involved in the sorority they belonged to when they were in school. From time to time you will have a chance to interact with them, which can definitely be used to your advantage. Networking with these women can help you to obtain internships while you are still in school, and even jobs after graduation. This will allow you to have an advantage over other candidates that do not have the sorority connection.
