Communicate with family members and treat them with respect. A positive relationship with family is a strong factor for influencing emotion. You are around your family most of the time. Therefore, the messages that you communicate with one another will affect your general attitude. If you encourage your family members to succeed, you will influence them in a positive way. If you discourage your family members, you will influence them in a negative way. They will feel bad.

Observe the type of friends that you communicate with. Friends can also influence your emotions both positively and negatively. Typically, the feelings of a friend can become your feelings as well. For example, if your friend is depressed about something, her despondent attitude will also cause you to feel disheartened.

Analyze the contents of your environment. The type of environment that you reside in can influence how you feel about society. If you live in an area dominated by violence and crime, then you may not be as hopeful as someone that lives in an area with less violence and more prosperity.

Make a connection between colors and feelings. Light colors, such as seafoam green, are typically associated with calmness and relaxation. Consider the person that provides a message or performs an action that is associated with an emotional response. Often, if the same person provides the same message or performs the same action consistently, the emotional influence will not be as strong. For example, if your friend constantly tells you that you look pretty, you may not be as flattered by it because it is expected. However, if someone else tells you, you will be more likely to believe it.

Analyze your body language and that of others. Body language can influence emotion, sometimes even more significantly than words alone. For example, if a person gives you a nasty look, it will make you feel sad, insecure, and anxious.
