How to Hide Participants in Moodle

Moodle, a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), is free open source software for creating Internet-based learning programs. Moodle offers fully online learning or online supplemental components to traditional classroom based learning. Once a person enrolls in a Moodle course, regardless of his assigned role, he is referred to as "Participants." You can "hide" these participants, but you must do this when enrolling them in the course. If the participant is already enrolled in the course, you will have to dis-enroll him and re-enroll him following this process.

Instructions

    • 1

      Log into your Moodle course.

    • 2

Turn "Editing" on if it is not already on. You turn it on by clicking "Turn editing on" in the upper right corner.

    • 3

Click on the closed eye "Show" icon under "People in the upper left corner of the page to display "Participants."

    • 4

      Click on "Participants."

    • 5

Click on the blue page and pencil icon to the left of the title, "All participants."

    • 6

Click on the "Role" you will assign the new participant.

    • 7

Add the participant and then click on their name in the "existing users" column.

    • 8

Click on the box to the right of the column so that a check mark appears. If you leave your mouse over the box, it will say, "Hidden Assignment."

    • 9

Click "Assign roles in Course: XXXXXX" where the X's are the name of your course.
