Graphic Design Schools in Vancouver, WA

Washington is known for its diverse artistic communities, and graphic design naturally fits in amongst that creative vibe. People interested in this field have a choice of pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. There are several schools either in the city of Vancouver, or within driving distance from it, that have the type of educational programs to help you get your start.
  1. Clark College

    • Clark College was accredited in 1937 and has been offering a number of different educational programs since. They have an AA degree with a concentration in graphic arts that will transfer to most four-year programs. This particular program exposes the student to a number of different artistic forms, and offers several different classes depending on the student's interests. (see Reference 1)

    Cascadia Community College

    • Cascadia Community College was ranked number two in the "Washington Monthly" magazine list of top community colleges. They have several different programs, designed for the student's interest. According to their catalog, they offer state-of-the-art technology so that students graduating with this degree will have an advantage over other students. They are aligned with the University of Washington, so students will have access to both library systems. (see reference 2)

    Portland Community College

    • Portland Community College, located within driving distance of Vancouver, WA, is a two-year university that prepares students for a degree in graphic design. Since, traditionally, the requisites for most undergrad courses are similar, and because it costs less money to go to a community college, this might be a good choice for students who are budget-minded. Students graduating from Portland Community College will have an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Graphic Design. (see Reference 3)

    Portland State University

    • While PSU is not located directly in Vancouver, it is the closest four-year university to that area. This university offers everything necessary for on-campus living, but is also convenient enough for commuters, providing common amenities such as parking passes and the like. Students in any of the BA graphic design programs will study everything from concept design to application, and learn to use the software necessary to design creatively on a computer. At the end of their coursework, students will have accumulated a portfolio and have the option to have completed an internship. (see reference 4)
