How to Form a Student Union

A student union is a great way for college students to organize and plan social events or provide student representation to the university. Student unions are normally run entirely by students without input from faculty. Consider forming a student union if you find you share an enthusiasm for a certain activity with other students and if the school does not already have a student-run organization that meets your needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to your student government office on campus or look up that department on your college's website.

    • 2

Obtain an application to form a new student group or club. Each university will have different terminology and paperwork; you can ask your college's help desk or consult the school's website for specific information.

    • 3

Find students willing to sign the student union charter. Check the paperwork to make sure you have enough signatures to at least meet the required minimum.

    • 4

Choose your student union officers and specifically define their roles.

    • 5

Fill out the rest of the paperwork and turn it back in to your student government office.
