How to Reapply Education Benefits for the Children of Veterans

As of Aug. 1, 2009, U.S. veterans who qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill may be entitled to transfer their educational benefits to their dependents, including children. By filling out a number of forms provided by the Department of Veterans affairs and gaining eligibility, veterans can transfer their educational benefits to their children. The transfer of benefits does not apply to other GI Bills, including the Montgomery GI Bill.

Instructions

  1. Determine Eligibility

    • 1

      Go to www.dmdc.osd.mil/TEB and fill out the Official DoD Eligibility Form.

    • 2

      Go to http://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp upon approval of the Official DoD Eligibility Form.

    • 3

      Complete the "Veterans ON-line APP-lication (VONAPP). When prompted, designate the child dependent that the veteran wishes to make use of the educational benefits.
