How to Find Musical Scholarships

If you or your child is a talented musician and want to go to a college or university you will want to find a scholarship. With the cost of tuition, room and board, books, activity and technology fees attending college can get ridiculously expensive. A scholarship can help dramatically reduce these costs. If it seems hard to find musical scholarships read further to find an easy way to find and apply for these financial awards.

      Make a list of colleges or universities that offer music degrees. Make sure this list includes colleges or universities that you are willing to attend. If you only want to attend colleges or universities within your state then do not list those that are not in your state. The same applies to musical schools that you would like to apply for if they are public or private. Decide which you would like to attend before searching out any scholarships they may offer.

      Log on to each college or university that you may want to attend and seek out their information on scholarships. If you have trouble finding the information or do not have access to the web you can find the information by calling the college or university directly and asking them to mail the scholarship information to you.

      Click on "Prospective" or "Future Students" and follow the link to their scholarship page. Not all colleges and universities are the same therefore neither are their websites and the way the structure them. The scholarship page may be listed under admissions or you may follow a link from the tuition page.

      Click on the musical college or universities search box and enter scholarship. If you are having trouble finding the scholarship page you may want to go this route. This should for sure direct you to their scholarship page.

      Print out the information and read through it carefully. Note the deadline dates and make sure you meet them. With musical scholarships an audition is sure to be in the plan so keep in mind that you will need to travel to the school and make plans to audition in addition to the normal admission procedure. Usually with musical schools an audition is a requirement.

      Log on to the College Board website. They have a step-by-step fill-in procedure to help you find scholarships based on your specific needs. If you are only looking for scholarships then make sure to uncheck everything else on the “Type of Award” page. When you are finished filling out the short answer and question pages the website will give you a list of scholarships.

      Click on one of these scholarships to see if you would like to apply for it. Read through the requirements. If the scholarship pertains to you then follow through with the contact information and send a request for information on how to apply for that particular scholarship. Which ever way you choose to search for your musical scholarship being diligent in your search will land you more scholarships to cover your cost of your musical school or university.
