About the Award

The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award is Vermont's only statewide book award for children's literature. The award is presented annually by the Vermont Department of Libraries to a living author for a children's book published in the previous calendar year.

The award is named for Dorothy Canfield Fisher, a Vermont author who wrote more than 40 books for children and adults. Fisher was a passionate advocate for children's literature and believed that books could help children to learn and grow.

Judging Process

The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award is judged by a panel of Vermont librarians. The panel considers a variety of factors when judging books, including:

The panel selects one book to receive the award each year. The winner is announced in the spring.
