What are and how many Nobel Prizes there?

The five categories of Nobel Prizes (Chemistry, Economics, Literature, Peace, and Physics) were named after their creator, Alfred Nobel, a Swedish chemist. The sixth class, Physiology or Medicine, is sometimes attributed to the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet's request.

Each year on 10 December (the anniversary of Nobel's death in 1896), Nobel Prizes are granted at award ceremonies in Stockholm (Chemistry, Economics, Literature, Physics, Physiology or Medicine) and Oslo (Peace).
