He earned his bachelor of arts degree in journalism from New York University, where he played on the varsity basketball team.
During the 1990s, Demaria also wrote and published a regular sports column called "The Basketball Corner" for the *Brooklyn Daily Eagle* newspaper. Demaria worked for the city of New York for 23 years before retiring. He lived in Brooklyn, New York, until his passing in 2015.
