Where is the irony in Bargain by AB Guthrie?
In Bargaining by AB Guthrie, irony can be found in the protagonist’s name being ‘John Barre’. Despite this ‘barre’ is French ‘to bar’. However, he is a man known for trying to avoid confrontation whenever possible and often takes no responsibility for any problems in his life despite actively avoiding their originators like his uncle in town whom he refuses to acknowledge and his parents that are still on homestead that John wants desperately to escape.
