What does a poem have to rhyme or rhythm?

A poem does not necessarily have to rhyme or have a rhythm. There are many types of poems that do not have a set rhyme scheme or meter. Some examples include free verse poetry, haiku, and sonnets. These types of poems may still be considered poems even though they do not follow a traditional rhyme or rhythm pattern.
