Mary Shelley is best known for her Gothic novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus (1818), which tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. The creature comes to life and becomes a monster that pursues its creator and takes revenge on him.
