While it was his first major success and what launched his career, Dickens had written and published other works before "The Pickwick Papers." Some examples include:
* "A Dinner at Poplar Walk": A short story published anonymously in 1833.
* "The Mudfog Papers": A series of humorous sketches published in 1837.
* "Sketches by Boz": A collection of stories and essays published in 1836.
So, while "The Pickwick Papers" is considered his breakout work, it wasn't his first literary foray.
