Study your basic math techniques. The SSAT focus on a few specific math concepts and requires consistency with those skills. The exam includes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as more complicated techniques such as factoring, percentages and other basic concepts. Study the techniques behind these methods.
Prime numbers are any number, greater than one, with only two positive factors, one and itself. Be sure that you are familiar with this rule and the method of identifying a prime number. The first ten prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23 and 29. You do not need to memorize these numbers, but you should take some time studying the reason why these numbers are prime.
Learn the handy mnemonic, Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. This mnemonic explains the order of operations for more complicated equations. "Please" represents the parenthesis stage of an equation and tells you to solve the equation within parenthesis first. "Excuse" represents the exponents in an equation, which should be simplified next. "My Dear" represents multiplication and division functions, which should be solved third. "Aunt Sally" represents addition and subtraction, and you should solve these last.
Use flash cards to study definitions, synonyms and antonyms. The verbal section of the exam requires language understanding. Use your flash cards regularly and continue adding new cards with new words. Include a word on the front, and on each back write the definition, list of synonyms and list of antonyms. Ask a friend or relative to show you a card while you recite the definition. Alternately, ask them to tell you a word and then read a word from the synonym or antonym list and ask you to determine which it is.
Practice your writing technique. Organize a topic in your head and construct two or three main points upon which you can expand. Include an introduction that contains your thesis statement. Write your main points into three paragraphs. Summarize your points in your conclusion. This format is the standard for SSAT essays.
