Hand-write vocabulary words from the common SAT word list on index cards. Write their definitions and sentences using them in context on the other side. Hand-writing the words (rather than using pre-made SAT prep cards) will help you learn the words more thoroughly.
Study the words in small groups, slowly adding new words as you learn the old ones. Harvard University researchers have developed entire programs based around this "spaced repetition" technique, claiming that information is better embedded in a student's memory when learned in intervals.
Read literary works and write down any words you encounter that you don't understand. Look up their definitions in a dictionary and add the words to your vocabulary card set. Augusta State University advises that its students use reading as a pillar of their vocabulary studies.
Use several SAT vocabulary words a day in either conversation or writing. Select one word each day to look up on a search engine. Study how different websites use the word in context.
Visualize the word by sketching an interpretation of it. Transferring the meaning of the word to another medium can further enforce your memory of it.
Take a practice SAT every other week to learn the structure of the test and understand how this vocabulary will be implemented on the actual exam.
