What is the purpose of Literacy Test?

The purpose of literacy tests, which were formerly used in some countries as a voter qualification, was to limit the ability of certain groups of people to vote. These tests often included reading comprehension and writing requirements that disproportionately affected minority populations, effectively disenfranchising them. Literacy tests were criticized for being discriminatory and perpetuating racial inequality, as they did not truly assess an individual's capacity to vote or understand political issues. Today, most democratic societies have eliminated literacy tests as a voting requirement.
