What If My Child Fails FCAT Writing?

The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, better known as the FCAT, measures benchmarks for Florida students in grades three through 11. It includes a writing test in certain grades, but as of 2010, a passing score on FCAT Writing is not needed for promotion or graduation.
  1. Purpose

    • The FCAT is administered to public school students and FCAT Writing, which measures writing proficiency, is given to fourth, eighth and 10th graders.

    Consequences

    • According to the Florida Department of Education, as of 2010, there are no state mandated consequences for a failing score on the FCAT Writing portion of the test.

    Scoring

    • The FCAT Writing scores range from one to six points, with a six being the highest. Each school district determines what they consider a passing score.
