Level one categorizes students whose English language skills are elementary. At level two, language skills are intermediate. At level three, skills are at upper intermediate level, at level four skills are advanced and at level five the speaker is a proficient user of the English language.
According to the framework provided by the Association of Language Testers in Europe, a student categorized at level two should be able to "cope linguistically in a range of everyday situations which require a largely predictable use of language." He might also be able to express ideas, opinions and emotions.
Students who are at level two will often be advised to take the Preliminary English Test (PET), a Cambridge University-accredited qualification that serves as credible evidence of the student's ability in the language.
